Over the weekend I traveled north to San Francisco for the first time ever. While there is plenty to see in San Fran, one of the main attractions last weekend was the annual WonderCon at the Moscone center where lovers of comics, cosplay, and sci-fi alike came together to browse the exhibit hall and take part in scheduled events.

I consider myself a veteran to San Diego’s Comic-Con, which gets more and more packed with attendees every year, so this was quite a change from the hustle and bustle and had a more laid back vibe. It was easier to browse for bargains on your favorite comic books and wander around without tripping over someone else’s toes. Just like any convention, there was a good amount of cosplayers wandering about. Storm troopers kept guard over the entrance of the Moscone center while Darth Vader instructed antendee’s on where to register.

Most anticipated events included signings by Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher, Will Arrnett, and Henry Winkler as well as panel discussions for Star Trek, The Watchmen and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Can’t forget to mention the masquerade where everyone in costume is encouraged to attend and compete in a costume competition for trophies and prizes.

Overall it seemed like a big warm up for this year’s upcoming Comic-Con since that was what everyone was talking about and looking forward to. I can’t wait to see what it will have to offer us this time around.
