Protman Makes Music

You won’t find his music in stores. But many a electronic musician has heard the name of Protman as they wander the endless digital netherworld known as the internet. Not to be confused with PROTOMAN (Megaman’s older brother), Protman is primarily known for one thing. He makes music.

It would be easy to confuse him with a robot though, because he has a unnatural affinity to manipulating puredata objects and naming his tracks things like:

“09_129ffjv”

So what kind of music does this Protman make you ask? Well thats pretty hard to say… It is good and it is electronic. Beyond that, describing this music gets pretty difficult. Some of Protman’s music might be loosely described as house, or ambient, or chiptuney… electronicy… music…

Okay I am going to try this again. It has beeps and boops. And cute/funny samples. And a groove you can move to or just chill out and enjoy the weird crap happening around you that we call life. Protman has a few “releases” which you can check out on his website. He also has hoards of what he calls “demos” (most people would call them songs) and live recordings from various parties featuring artist’s such as Realicide and Surachai at Castle Tacoskull and other bizarre locales available for free download. Please stop torturing me by making me describe this stuff and just listen to it already. You will like it.

Here is “116chickenkiller”, one of my favorite Protman tracks:

Another thing you should know about Protman is that he runs the Iron Chef of Music competition. The ICOM competitors are given a short sample of audio, and they must create and submit a song entirely from that piece of audio within the short time of 2 hours. The competition takes place in real life (@ the Basscave in Chicago) and online simultaneously. Pretty neat idea right?

Definitely a artist worthy of recognition, please check out his stuff:
